The mystery has been solved. The train set is from Mose’s godparents, Carolyn and Kennan. And what a present it has been. Which is not to undervalue the numerous and various presents given by friends, family, and even ourselves. It’s just that Mose has some kind of choo-choo mania that cannot be explained, was completely unexpected, and seems boundless. Carolyn and Kennan hit the jackpot. For now.
The train, like so many good things in life, is a source of joy and pain. When it’s good, it’s great; when it’s bad it’s the end of the world. Pulling his little train along the track is like being in heaven. Having a train derailis being sent to a lower plane of hell.
Yesterday morning, Mose woke up and the first word out of his mouth was “choo-choo.” Edie asked Mose if he wanted to give me a morning hug and he said, “no. Choo-choo.” Oh to be second fiddle to a wooden train set. But today, I was able to intercept Mose on his way to the train and was granted a hug that smacked a little of noblesse oblige. But hey, I’ll take it. Any Mose hug is better than no Mose hug.
While Mose’s ardor has hardly cooled, I am happy to report that his last words as we put him to bed tonight were not “choo-choo” or “train” but “cookie store.” The world is returning to balance.

If Mose is willing to let us play with the train, we’re willing to sleep on the livingroom floor when we come to visit.
Love,
Grandma Lanie and Grandpa Lew
oh, the horror of a stuck train, the joy of a smooth ride.
Wow. That is one intense experience. Glad to feed whatever choo-choo mania still exists in the world.
Bring him here – we can sit on a bench and have ice cream from the Soda Shoppe and watch the mile-long freight trains huff right through the middle of the main drag of the village. They blow their whistles at EVERY intersection! No doubt he’d love it (probably more than the adults)
Oh, Mose…. you are so intense.
Hope that kind of concentration stays with him through school.
I know it’s not the same, but one of Josh’s favorite places in LA was Travel Town, near the LA zoo. They have all kinds of trains to climb on and ride on. Is there anything like that in NOLA? Josh still remembers our trips there.
ha! Jackson has a similar train fetish, second only to his obsession with “back hoe loader trucks”. Wish we could get the two of them together for a play date!
